Shattered Photos

My Shattered Photos are digitally altered photographs (my own) that have the appearance of looking at something through the lens of a kaleidoscope. The resultant images are almost hypnotic, since the patterns formed resemble mandalas that you could fall into.

The Shattered Photos and conventional photography are available in prints, matted to 8×10 (print is 5×7) and 11×14 (print is 8×10) inch. Watermarks do not appear on prints.

Also see the Textile Art page, featuring art that uses many Shattered Photo designs (and a couple of conventional ones), and the Photo Jewelry page, that does as well. For an option that has multiple designs in one prepackaged set, visit the Photo Cards page.

Wet after a summer shower, the petals were gleaming and beautiful. Taken in a friend’s garden.

“Coreopsis”

Macro photography is so much fun, even when you abstract it like this. This is a closeup of the center of a coreopsis in my neighbor’s garden.
Matted in white.

“Creeping Jenny II”

I didn’t notice until later, when I was editing this one for prints – see the little ankhs? That’s what makes the Shattered Photos so fun for me, when things like that pop up in the images.
Matted in black.
$19.99

.

“Curls”

These are the little curling sepals underneath a cosmos blossom. The make such a delicate, lacy pattern this way.

Sometimes called “Pinks,” they’re relatives of carnations and I adore them. Even in the middle of summer, they look like a Valentine.
Matted in white.
$19.99

.

“Dragonfly and Clematis”

This handsome dragonfly was sunning itself on my clematis trellis, waiting for the day to be warm enough to start hunting. Since it was still a cool morning, I was able to get a few photos of it.
Matted in black.
$19.99

“Foxglove”

This foxglove was blooming in a friend’s garden. I don’t know if she’s ever had foxes run through, but it’s a fun though to think of those little hunters creeping into suburban back yards to slip into “fox gloves” before ghosting away.
Matted in white.
$19.99

.
.

“Gnarly Tree”

This very gnarled tree in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, was pretty old and had only a few green branches on it. This tree had seen some… stuff. Too bad it didn’t share its secrets.
Matted in black.
$19.99

“Hibiscus”

A blooming daylily and discarded plastic pots make a beautiful contrast in color, with the rich red, bright green, and warm terracotta.

“Orange Coreopsis”

Wet from rain, the sunny orange blossoms just glowed, even though it was overcast. I don’t usually leave an image like this so intact, typically running it through the process again, but this “wreath” of sunshine was so lovely I left it be.
Matted in black.
$19.99

“Pink Hydrangea”

A friend’s garden (honestly, her back yard is magical), with a heavily-blooming hydrangea.

Matted in black.
$19.99

“Snowy Branches”

This is a prime example of making lemonade. I had pulled my car off the road to take this, in a place not designed to be pulled off. The scene was too pretty not to risk it. In my haste, I didn’t check my camera settings, and the ISO was too high, resulting in blown photos. I salvaged one for a Shattered Photo.
Matted in black. (also in 11×14)
$19.99

“Snowy Sunrise”

I’ve often had issues with insomnia, but sometimes, it’s given me the gift of images like this: cotton candy colored sunrises. In the foreground is the snow-covered yew by our front door.
Matted in black.

“Sow Thistle”

Making lemonade again: this time with weeds growing in the evergreens. The sunlight through the petals of this dandelion cousin really was quite beautiful, as it snaked its way through the branches of the yew to reach sunshine.
Matted in black. (also in 11×14)
$19.99

.

“Trumpet Vine”

Rain was clinging to the bell of this flower in silvery pearls that translated so beautifully to a Shattered Photo. The luminosity of the late afternoon sun on the blossom and the shadowed green leaves made for such a glorious contrast.
Matted in black.

“White Phlox”

Crisp, white rain-wet blossoms against rich, green leaves. The scent was so amazing that afternoon…

Another old-fashioned fave of mine, the snapdragon. This one worked out to have a fantastically strong linear pattern in the background.
